With thousands of users on the Relay platform, citizens can report non-emergency incidents directly to nearby responders via a mobile application

INDIANAPOLIS (January 21, 2020) - Relay, a SaaS platform whose mission is to connect citizens and public safety in more meaningful ways, today announces its public launch out of the High Alpha venture studio. Relay is transforming the way citizens and public safety agencies communicate by allowing citizens to report non-emergency incidents via a mobile app. Nearby first responders are notified in real-time, enabling them to address issues quickly and safely. The app, which is available for iOS and Android phones, is free to use for citizens. Incidents can be reported anywhere in the US and the nearest law enforcement agency will be notified.

Led by CEO DJ Muller, Relay launches out of beta with over 5,000 users across the country. Relay offers an easier and safer way for citizens and public safety agencies to communicate, enabling faster, more reliable and more detailed incident reporting.

“Relay is building the first universal app to connect citizens anywhere in the country with nearby first responders,” says Muller. “The way we report and respond to incidents has not evolved with today’s technology. The overwhelming majority of calls to 911 are not an emergency, which leaves a major toll on our communities in both dollars and lives.”

Relay has already partnered with a number of innovative agencies across the US, who receive live feeds of submitted incidents. Local agency partners include Fishers, Ind., Avon, Ind. and Fortville, Ind., with new partners launching in the coming months. Agencies are turning to Relay to bridge the gap between officers and citizens.

“The ability to share meaningful information between citizens and law enforcement with as little friction as possible is fundamental to our safety as a community,” said Kristian Andersen, Partner at High Alpha. “Relay has an opportunity to completely change the conversation around safety and community engagement, creating space to build better relationships between citizens and the agencies that protect them.”

Relay was originally inspired by a partnership between the City of Fishers and the Fishers Police Department to make reporting non-emergency information to police easier.

“The Relay concept was developed out of our law enforcement leadership’s desire to bridge the gap between what our residents observe and the intelligence our police depend on,” said  Fishers Mayor Scott Fadness. “Since its implementation, there have been several occurrences where it has done just that and in doing so contributed to a safer community.”
