On April 5, 2018, MC Hammer stopped by the High Alpha offices as our April High Alpha Speaker Series guest. As you probably know, Hammer is an extremely talented artist, a 3-time Grammy award-winner, and the first hip-hop artist to achieve Diamond status for an album. He also, though, is extremely entrepreneurial and is an avid tech advisor and investor.
Hammer was visiting Indianapolis and High Alpha with The Last Mile, where he serves as a board member and advisor. The Last Mile is an incredible program that teaches incarcerated men and women how to code and provides them with skills and opportunities for post-prison life. The Last Mile team was visiting Indianapolis for a ribbon-cutting ceremony at the Indiana Women’s Prison, the first Last Mile location to open outside California.
We were honored to host The Last Mile team and MC Hammer for our April Speaker Series to talk more about their program and Hammer’s background. In a fireside chat with High Alpha Partner Kristian Andersen, Hammer shared stories about important mentors from his childhood, the inspiring teachers in Oakland public schools that pushed him to be his best, and how he first got involved in the tech industry.
